Fires compound losses of harvestable timber in B.C.’s Interior

Recommended reading from CBC News: Mills across B.C. have shut down or greatly reduced operations as a result of wildfires occurring across the province. Industry analysts are noting possible compounding losses as fires decimate B.C.’s timber supply, finding many people out of work due to a shortage of raw materials. A hint of a silver lining can be seen, as reduced supply of harvestable timber means Canadian lumber operations are less likely to undermine US timber operations, providing a valuable bargaining chip for negotiators sitting at the Canada-US softwood lumber table.
